Mini mushers: part 3

Do you remember the day you took your first field trip? I don't remember the details of mine, but like most of you, I would imagine that you do remember the excitement that surrounded going someplace new, someplace different, someplace FUN! After three years of having guest speakers come to visit us at Playschool, we finally checked "going on a field trip" off the bucket list.

This week Playschool had the opportunity to work with Steph Love, the co-director from Positive Energy Outdoors (PEO).  Steph is an amazing person, with such a big heart and hope for connecting people, of all ages, to the outdoors. She has been visiting Playschool for years now and this year after spending the month of January learning about dog sledding and anticipating what it would be like to ride on a sled pulled by REAL dogs (not just their classmates) the kids (and let's be honest, I) could hardly wait for the day we would go to visit her at PEO.

The morning of the field trip parents bucked their child's car seats into the big, white, 15 passenger van. The drive in itself was a very memorable part of our morning (there was lots of singing in the back seats). But beyond that, seeing the things that these children learned at Playschool being put in to action was so powerful. They went out prepared, confident and comfortable. While at PEO the children meet many of the 55 dogs, they helped to harness the dogs, they saw what the dog eat and the equipment that they dogs use, and  as you can guess... they all went on a 2 mile sled dog ride that was "REALLY FAST!!"!

I can't tell you how contagious their smiles were on that day (although I  do think the pictures do it justice). But like many days spent with these little one, it was a magical day. If someday one of these mini mushers decides that they are going to race sled dogs, I wouldn't be surprised.

Thank you again to PEO (Steph, Blake and Isaac) for all you do for our community. I encourage you to check out the great programs/experiences that you and your family can participate in through PEO.
